In this episode I am talking to Joost Boeles - A Dutchie turned start-up founder in Kenya. When I got introduced to Joost, I struggled a bit with the question of how does his business makes sense? Joost has co-founded the first e-Bike assembler in East Africa and sells them to businesses and individuals via subscription. So, Joost got told by a lot of people that this would not work - but he had a sense that it could work. His goal is to have 100,000 e-Bicycles or eBees as he calls them on African roads by 2030. We obviously talked about what got him into this adventure - or what he called “spreading his wings” but also about how much positive impact there actually is to e-Bicycles in Kenya. After all, you could argue that there are bigger issues than bringing electric bicycles to the streets. Later on, I challenge Joost a bit on what he thinks about European entrepreneurs in Africa, how Africa can achieve the miracle of sustainable development without using too many resources and lastly, what Europeans and Africans can learn from each other. Enjoy!
