It's the 30th episode of The Album Concept Hour! In order to commemorate it correctly, we're doing an episode about 30 Seconds to Mar's 3rd album, "This Is War." Coming off the heels of their successful sophomore release "A Beautiful Lie," which pulled people in with it's high-budget music videos/short films, brothers/bandmates Shannon and Jared Leto were poised to make another hit record. Jared Leto had reached huge success in his acting career and now he had reached that in his music career. To put it bluntly, this symmetrically-faced, actor/rock star/heart-throb was worth a lot of money. In 2008, 30 Seconds to Mars was trying pivot away from Virgin Records, who had acquired the label they originally signed to, Immortal Records. EMI (who owned Virgin Records) was pissed about possibly losing such a big asset and, seeing a chance to make some quick cash, attempted to sue the band for only completing 2 of the 5 albums they felt they were owed. However, Jared Leto pointed out that in California, contracts can't legally bind you more than 7 years and they were on their 9th year. Although they ultimately declared their contract null and void, they did end up staying with EMI for "This Is War," putting their differences aside. They have made peace, but the album they released is about the personal war they went through in the legal system during that time and is a big shift in their sound. Join Brad, Scott, Dave, and Jon as they try to discover what the war is all about.

COMING UP: (08-17-20) Elton John - Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy

(08-24-20) Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
