The DMV Business Show with Otto Sevilla is excited to introduce Carlos Talamante, Senior Vice President and Private Client Adviser at Bank of America Private Bank in Washington, DC. He was born in Mexico but moved to the United States with his family at the age of six months. He grew up in Colorado and later moved around the country before settling in Washington D.C. Carlos's early career began in petroleum and chemical engineering at the University of New Mexico, but he later switched to finance and economics after a congressional internship on Capitol Hill. His parents were initially unsupportive of his career change, but Carlos found that finance and economics aligned with his passions and strengths, and his parents eventually came around. Carlos shared his career journey, starting with his college major in economics and switching to a related field. He worked for a defense contracting firm in New Mexico before being recruited by Goldman Sachs in Salt Lake City, where he was a treasury operations analyst. After a year and a half, he moved to JP Morgan Private Bank in San Francisco, where he was an investment professional working with complex financial products and helping clients execute trades. He later moved to JP Morgan Private Bank again in Washington D.C., focusing on taxation and financial planning. Carlos highlighted the importance of cultural identity and shared his experiences as a Latino in the US, including his participation in a polo match organized by the Latino Executive Network. Carlos emphasized the value of pursuing one's passion and being open to change, even if it means departing from one's family's traditional career path. He praised Bank of America's team-based consultative approach, citing it as more client-centric and aligning with his own values. He noted that Bank of America's focus on diversity and inclusion resonated with him. He reflected on his experiences living on the East and West coasts, comparing the laid-back culture of San Francisco to the faster-paced environment of D.C. He provides valuable insights into his career journey, values, and priorities. As a Senior Vice President and Private Client Adviser at Bank of America Private Bank, Carlos advises high-net-worth individuals, families, and institutions on managing and growing their wealth. His shared experiences and personal anecdotes offer a unique perspective on cultural identity, diversity, and inclusion in the financial industry.
