Episode #032: My Journey to Being a Model Millennial and Going Against the Grain with Joel Xu

In this episode of the Grow2Gether podcast, we're joined by community member and founder of Model Millennials - Joel Xu as we discuss his journey of being a Model Millennial (as in role model) and why and how he has gone against the grain!

Joel left University when he was 19 years old to become an apprentice for a social entrepreneur. He wanted to get real experience after discovering that he wasn't learning any practical skills like he thought and wanted to by going to traditional school. Coming from an Asian background, Joel says he felt like he was the black sheep of the family without a degree so worked hard to compensate.

He was fortunate enough to make a six-figure income in digital marketing sales by the time he was 22 years old, and that process introduced him to the digital marketing world which is now his vocation alongside working on his passion project: Model Millennials - a blog and podcast dedicated to helping people in their 20's and early 30's navigate adulthood.

• If you feel like and be an underdog and still create something pretty amazing. In fact, you can use that of being an underdog to your advantage.
  
• The clearer your vision becomes, the more likely you are to stay focused. Don't just say you want to change the world... start with why you want to change the world, then get clear on what that looks like and feels like for you.
  
• It's all about building a good foundation so you can ultimately go and do bigger things with your life that are in alignment with your vision. That's what personal growth, self-mastery, and leadership give you and the earlier you start the better!
  
• If you were to take someone from the 1900s and put them into the 2000's they wouldn't recognise anything in the world but the one thing they would recognise is the education system which just goes to show how outdated our education system really is. This is because it's built on the Greek model of remembering information instead of a more practical model based on the Hebrew model.
