A lot of people get into security, receive the minimal training in regard to law knowledge, and that’s it. I like to educate myself (as well as the guards I lead) in the laws pertinent to our function as security. In this episode, I go over a short list of laws which I believe are important for every guard out there to know.

Please keep in mind; however, these laws are specific to California. While they may be similar to other states, you are advised to do your research into your state laws, even those of you in California, as laws are constantly changing.

I am not a lawyer and am not providing legal advice, I am simply reviewing several code sections from the California Penal Code as I feel they pertain to the private security industry in California. If you have any questions about laws in California or other states, I advise you to seek the advice of an attorney.

It is imperative as security guards that we know the laws surrounding making private persons arrests, including false imprisonment, kidnapping, and other related law sections. Do your homework on this one!
