"The Man from Glengarry" is a novel written by Canadian author Ralph Connor, first published in 1901. Set in the rugged wilderness of Ontario, Canada, during the late 19th century, the story revolves around the life of Ranald Macdonald, a charismatic and resourceful young man from the Glengarry region of Scotland who immigrates to Canada.

The novel follows Ranald's journey as he adapts to the challenges of his new life in the Canadian wilderness. He becomes a lumberjack, working in the logging camps of the Great North Woods. Ranald's strength, courage, and strong work ethic make him a respected figure among his fellow lumberjacks. He also falls in love with Kate, the daughter of a local minister, and their relationship adds a romantic subplot to the story.

About the author

Ralph Connor was the pseudonym of the Canadian author Charles William Gordon, born on September 13, 1860, in Glengarry County, Ontario, Canada. He was a prominent figure in Canadian literature during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Gordon adopted the pen name "Ralph Connor" for his writing career, which he derived from the names of two towns in his native region, Inverness and Glengarry.

Gordon attended the University of Toronto and graduated with a degree in theology. He later pursued further studies in Scotland and returned to Canada as a Presbyterian minister. His experiences as a minister and his deep connection to the rural communities of Canada strongly influenced his writing.
