Surfer, photographer and shark attack victim, Mike Coots, shares his story and how he has become an advocate for saving the shark that nearly killed him. It is one thing getting back on your feet, it is another thing to get back in the surf, and its almost an unfathomable thing becoming an advocate for the very thing that nearly killed you. Our guest on Episode 10 of the Keep Standing Podcast, is professional photographer and surfer, Mike Coots, who at the age of just 18 years old was attacked by a tiger shark in Kauai. Now at 35, Mike is becoming known not just for his epic photos on instagram and his ability to shred the surf with his prosthetic, but also for working with organizations to help save sharks from being killed off. In our conversation today, we talk about his process to learn to surf again, being a mentor to other adaptive athletes, who inspires him and what he does to keep standing on a daily basis. You can tell Mike truly enjoys life and pushing the limits of his leg, his prothetic and himself all while a making a difference in lives of others (and sharks) along the way.
