February 25th, 1964. On this date 58 years ago, one of the most anticipated, watched and controversial fights in sports history took place. That’s the date when Muhammad Ali, then known as Cassius Clay, beat Sonny Liston by technical knockout when he failed to answer the bell for the seventh round. Sensing that he had made history, he quickly ran to the ropes and repeatedly yelled "I'm the greatest!" and "I shook up the world."

Not only was that true, but in the larger context of what was happening in 1964 that was an even bolder statement than it seems on the surface - Beatlemania had just begun in February 1964 with their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show, President Kennedy had just been assassinated in November 1963, Motown was just starting to heat up the charts with their hits, the civil rights era was in full bloom, and the 1964 presidential election was making everyone crazy.

On today’s episode we are going to do something special as we help give everyone a musical snapshot of what was going on in the world in 1964. And we are also going to take this one step further by sharing with you something we’ve been working on for the past 2 years.

Ali’s utter confidence in 1964 to think he could do the absolutely unthinkable has inspired us to capture that sentiment in a song, our debut single “Rumble Young Man”, which we’ll be sharing with you at the end of the episode. We are super excited to share this song with you and we hope you enjoy it!
