This week on The Record Process, we invited musician and industry veteran Matt Burns to the show for a special look into a recently released cover compilation that made waves in the punk rock community. As the Label Manager of SmartPunk Records, Matt had a unique perspective and huge role in piecing together the concept for the labels recently released Blink 182 Covers Compilation called “(Untitled): As Told By Smartpunk & Friends”. He shares with us the detailed process behind bringing this project to fruition. He speaks about the challenges they faced in developing the concept, pitching it to artists, assembling the tracklist, handling creative decisions, sorting out royalty splits, and ultimately getting it manufactured - all while staying true to the ethos of SmartPunk and the artist they support.
