The Remote Edition IG @theremoteedition Suzie IG @suzieclark_ This week I interview Amy McGill, a Marketing expert and business owner living between Bali and Australia. Amy started out in the corporate world, working her way up to become Head of Marketing at a large retail brand. After several years she started to feel restricted and unsure about the future career progression opportunities so she decided to quit her job and travel for four months to figure out what she wanted to do next. It was in Sri Lanka when she helped a hostel owner with his social media that she realised people really valued her skillset. Amy then decided to start her own Marketing business helping clients with social media, paid ads and branding strategy. She now has multiple clients, in multiple countries and splits her time between Canggu and Australia. She has also started her own E-Commerce store selling beautiful interior pieces, all handmade in rural villages in East Bali. Amy chats all about how she started the business, including powering through during a tough period of her life as her mum fell seriously ill. It's an incredibly inspiring story and super useful for anyone thinking about starting a business and wanting to travel at the same time. Welcome to The Remote Edition Podcast where we bring you the latest from the world of remote work. We share stories from people working remotely from all over the world. Whether they are entrepreneurs, digital nomads, freelancers, people who have remote jobs or coworking spaces we are sharing their stories. Whether you’re already working remotely, thinking about it or even managing a distributed team, this podcast is for YOU. About me (your host)... Hey I'm Suzie, I spent 6 years working in corporate sales roles in London including the largest Investment bank in the world and a San Francisco fintech unicorn. Despite these being quite impressive jobs to a lot of people, I always felt like something was missing. The routine started to really get me down so I did a lot of soul searching until I decided to quit my job, start a podcast and move to Bali to explore the world of remote work. What I discovered amazed me, there are entire communities of super smart and talented people working and living remotely, from all over the world, all doing different things and actually EXCITED about their work. I learned that many of them had left huge corporate jobs because they were restricted to staying in one place and had experienced similar things to me. From then on I became obsessed with this way of working, it opens up so many opportunities for you to travel, spend more time with loved ones or just do more things you love all whilst being more productive and generally happier. It also levels the playing field for global talent which is something I think can really change the economic landscape, solve issues in overpopulated cities and ultimately contribute to reducing global inequality. I want to help more people take advantage of this amazing way of working. Through my guest's stories, you will learn all about how they came to work remotely and the tips you can take into your own career and business.
