How does it feel when your first game for your country results in a 31-0 loss and a World record that stands to this day? You keep trying despite all the odds. At least, that's what you do if you are Nicky Salapu, our guest for this week's podcast.
We spoke to him about that harrowing Australia game and how he reacted afterwards. We asked him what has kept him going through an almost 20-year career for his country, playing for the ultimate footballing underdog and Nicky explained what it felt like committing yourself at a personal cost to keep playing and fighting for your country, through all the pain.
And finally, we found out how it felt when finally the curse was broken, and he experienced victory playing for his country in 2015. Along the way, we asked about his experiences of the Next Goal Wins documentary, how Thomas Rongen was as a coach and how he still dreams of a rematch against Australia.
He has a truly inspiring and fascinating story, and we are delighted to share it with you this week.
