The Tigers snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, putting a dour mood on this week's podcast. While the Tigers are still red-hot, having won 10 of 14 games leading into this week's show, a three-game losing streak does sting a bit. Of course, there is more to it than just a short skid. Injuries are mounting in Detroit, and the Tigers' roster is being stretched even thinner than usual. Cameron Maybin, Jordan Zimmermann, Mike Pelfrey, and Nick Castellanos are all on the disabled list, and a couple others might not be far behind. The Tigers do have J.D. Martinez back and Anibal Sanchez pitching well (for the moment), but is that enough? We debate how effectively the Tigers can keep pushing forward while they wait for their role players to heal. Speaking of injury news, Prince Fielder is no longer able to play baseball due to his second neck surgery in three years. Rob and Hookslide discuss Prince's career in Detroit, and where he ranks among some of the better players in Tigers history. There are also listener questions to be answered, and as always, we offer our opinions on just how this bullpen should be managed. Topics in this week's episode include: - West coast baseball and why it's awful - Michael Fulmer: still good - Anibal Sanchez: good again? - Why facing the Rangers isn't fun - Prince Fielder and where he ranks among Tigers greats - Listener questions! - Can Tim Tebow play baseball? - The Tigers' bullpen is bad again - Rob's newest hobby Contents: 2:23 - Rounding the Bases: how to lose even when you win 25:17 - Warming in the Pen: how to beat the Rangers 38:37 - High and Tight: good night, bittersweet Prince 54:18 - Into the Mob Scene at Home: midnight hot-takes 1:09:29 - The 7th Inning Kvetch: seriously, bullpen?
