The pastors who scribble down a sermon on a napkin, should toss that sucker where it belongs: in the trash. The teaching on Sunday is our first line of discipleship, which means the church you attend is critically important. But what happens after the Sunday sermon? The discipleship must continue. So how do you go about it?

When this is the day you’re waiting around for someone to ask you to disciple them, don’t. Ask an elder or a deacon to connect you with someone. Ask around. Ask someone you’ve connected with if they’re being discipled. If they have someone else in mind to disciple them, help connect them! This isn't dating. It's discipleship. Rejection don't matter. Obedience to the command to disciple others, matters.

Sanctification is becoming more like Christ, but it isn’t something we can do on our own. We are sinners by nature, so sanctification starts with humility. We must have a heart that longs to obey God, and slowly, over times, we will grow more and more like the one we were created in the image of. There isn’t a nook in our souls that we want to keep for ourselves. What does sanctification look like in the lives of first world women? Join Elizabeth and Monika and they dicuss the dotrine of sanctification. ________________________ When this is the day you feel like everyone is growing in sanctification except for you, don't let discouragment take over. That only leads to naval gazing, an inward focus doesn’t help us shake off those feelings. There’s nothing good in me apart from Christ, so what good can it do me to stare at myself? We become what we behold. When we just look at our sin, and focus on our discouragement over it, we find ourselves perpetuating that sin again! And then growing in greater discouragement! And then continuing that sin we hate so much, even more! And growing in greater discouragement! Instead, behold the Lord. Study who he is. His goodness, his mercy, his holiness, his righteousness. Study scripture and look to the cross - your sins were already paid for and what Jesus did was enough. ________________________ Resources: The Treasure of David by Charles Spurgeon . This excellent, three volume set of commentaries on the Psalms. Each and every Psalm discussed with lots of quotes and commentary from other well known teachers all in one place. Such rich theology and teaching of the Psalms. The sermon titled “ The Common Problem of Practical Atheism ” by one of our pastors, Josh Oedy. He taught on James 4:13-17 and sinful presumption, living as though God isn’t there, like he isn’t constantly in control and at work in our world and our lives. It’s convicting and ecouraging - a must listen for anyone going through a trial or challenging time in their life. ________________________ This Is The Day Rejoice Website Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest ________________________ We want everyone to have a free, printable bookmark, to help you spend more time rightly seeking to understand God's Word. Idol factories. An idol is ANYTHING - aaaaanything - that captures our hearts, our time, our attention, our minds, more than God. It can even be a GOOD thing! That’s what makes us so prone to churning out little idols in our hearts and minds. Fear, safety, health, finances, relationships, friendships, work, hobbies, family, the idols just keep on coming, and before we’ve even considered it a sin, we’ve already committed treason against a righteous and holy God. Rack, Shack and Benny had the right idea - bowing only to Christ. Join us as we learn from them today. ________________________ When this is the day you find yourself creating idols in your heart, repent! We are Christs. We belong to him. We are joyfully slaves to him. We do not have to be slaves to our fears, consumed by idols, distracted by things of this world. ________________________ Resources: Gospel Treason by Brad Bigney. This is a great book to help you examine your heart, hunting for those idols. But within this book there is an encouraging focus on the gospel at just the point when you feel there is not hope it making those idols topple Buddy Davis He’s home with the Lord now, but he was a singer, song writer, author, adventurer, paleo-artist, and teacher with Answers in Genesis. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck. Anger is the same, yet we try to sweep away the sin by giving it other names. Righteous anger nearly always gives way to sinful anger, within seconds. Anger is the result of sinful desires, ruling our hearts. What are we to do with the feeling? How do we contain it, eradicate it, mortify it? Meditation and yoga? The world has tons of advice in managing it, but the Bible tells us to “put to death the practices of the body” so that we might live (Romans 8:13) - that’s telling us to eradicate the sin completely, not just manage the expression of it. Join Elizabeth and Monika as they explore anger, through a bible lens. ________________________ When this is the day you’re mad (annoyed, irritated, disappointed, frustrated, etc), don’t take the worldly advice of meditation and yoga. Instead, meditate on scripture. Meditate on the merciful God who saved a sinner like you. Instead of doing downard dog in yoga, put on the posture of prayer. Get on your knees. Close your eyes. And go before the Lord in praise and supplicaiton, bringing him all your requests, and laying your sins at his feet, seeking forgiveness, renewing your mind with his truth, and asking him to give you the strength to put on new habits of joy, contentedness, and patience. ________________________ Resources: ANGER, ANXIETY AND FEAR: A Biblical Perspective by Stuart Scott Anger: Calming Your Heart by Robert D. Nobody likes being bossed around, especially a wife! Those pesky little scriptures in James and Colossians that tell wives to submit to their husbands are outdated and meant to roll your eyes at and ignore. At least, that's what our culture tells us. And even wives who faithfully adhere to the accuracy and sufficiency of scripture can struggle with the command to submit to a sinful husband, even more so if their husband is unsaved or unkind. Join Elizabeth and Monika as they explore the often challenging, but always righteous command, of submitting to one's own husband. James 4:7a - Submit yourselves therefore to God. Colossians 3:18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. ________________________ When this is the day you consider yourself a wife who submits because you would never make a big decision without your husband's consent, prayerfully examine your daily conversations and the position of your heart. You might be surprised. ________________________ What's Good: “I have learned to kiss the waves that throw me up against the Rock of Ages.” Charles Spurgeon When Sinners Say I Do by Dave Harvey ________________________ This Is The Day Rejoice Website Facebook | Instagram ________________________ We want everyone to have a free, printable bookmark, to help you spend more time rightly seeking to understand God's Word. The Star of Bethlehem, wisemen ruining nativity scenes, Santa Claus, and that nasty Herod the Great: Elizabeth and Monika answer listener questions about Christmas and chat about just a few of the traditions that have gone awry, biblical tradition in historical accounts, and other holly jolly related points. ________________________ When this is the day … you want to encourage your child to believe in Santa Claus, consider how they will distinguish between the truth of an unseen God and the fiction of a god-like Santa Claus with similar attributes. Discernment isn’t just about figuring out what’s true and what’s not. Some things are so clear and super easy to spot. But what takes true discernment, is knowing the difference between what’s right, and what’s not quite right. Michelle Lesley of A Word Fitly Spoken podcast joins us for this episode, as we discuss how to discern a false teachers and grow in discernment. The word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. - that’s Hebrews 4:12 ________________________ When this is the day you don’t know what names can be trusted, when you don’t know which teachers, authors, and speakers, should be on a “red flag list” or if the very book you’re reading is full of sound, biblical truth - go to God’s word. Study it more than you study anything else. EVER. Memorize the scriptures so the truth is already at your finger tips. Go to your pastor or elders and ask them. Shepherding you to truth is one of their great joys AND gifts. ________________________ Resources: Michelle Lesley Website Popular False Teachers and Unbiblical Trends A Word Fitly Spoken The Gospel Call and True Conversion by Paul Washer Justin Peters Ministeries ________________________ This Is The Day Rejoice Website Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest ________________________ We want everyone to have a free, printable bookmark, to help you spend more time rightly seeking to understand God's Word. Why does it sound like Elizabeth just called Monika an “older woman”? Welp, that was not intended—because that cutie pie is far too young for that phrase. What a terrible friend! (hehe) And yet, we invite you to listen and learn with both of them about what it means to be a friend. That starts with love, which is both defined and modeled by Christ. If you’re a gold-star listener who heard this episode in Season 1, we gave that original episode the ol’ heave-ho and recorded it again with our "more seasoned" podcasting abilities. We hope you enjoy it! ________________________ When this is the day you’re feeling lonely, left out, or wishing for more friends, quiet those melancholy voices and start preaching truth to yourself instead of listening to yourself. Remember, you are here to serve and love others—not to be served. Instead of wishing you had friends, practice BEING a friend. Practice it by looking beyond our own interests and considering how we can be kind, welcoming, generous, and loving to others, all for the glory of God, trusting that He will faithfully provide friendships in His perfect timing and in His perfect way. ________________________ Resources: Through the Psalms with Pastor Don Green A Word Fitly Spoken Podcast with Michelle Lesley and Amy Spreeman ________________________ This Is The Day Rejoice Website Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest ________________________ We want everyone to have a free, printable bookmark, to help you spend more time rightly seeking to understand God's Word. Discipleship is kinda like being someone’s Google Maps for life. You help them navigate the twists and turns, giving guidance when they’re feeling lost, and cheering for them every time they "arrive." You’re their go-to for directions, but they’re the one doing the driving. In a believer's life, both discipling and being discipled is an ongoing occurence, and it's not just suggested that we go about it, but commanded by the God we serve. ________________________ When this is the day you're feeling lost, frustrated, or like you're just spinning your wheels, look at who you are imitating. Paul tells us to imitate him, as he imitates Christ. Are you following closley, one who is closely following Christ? Consider also, who is watching and following you. ________________________ Resources: " Let us Run to Jesus Part 1 " taught by Pastor Bret Hastings " Let us Run to Jesus Part 2 " taught by Pastor Bret Hastings This is an excellent series to instruct us on how to run our race of faith. We must strive to blend the wisdom of the serpent with the innocence of the dove. We are called to be discerning in our dealings with the world, while freely sharing the gospel and loving others, so clearly set apart that those around us either grow to hate us or become saved. Matthew 10:16 Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. ________________________ When this is the day you know that you are blessed to be under godly shepherding, pray for your elders. Chaotic. Exhausting. Heartbreaking. Joyful. It’s true that life is hard. But it’s also true that God is good. In fact, God is the very definition of good, which means that even when this fallen world is full of tragedy, heartbreak, illness, death, pain, and your basic run-of-mill bad day, we can rejoice in the hope we have in Christ. Elizabeth and Monika look intently into Psalm 118:17-24 to see just why - and HOW - we can rejoice in the midst of sorrow, pain, and trials. ________________________ When this is the day you are experiencing chaos of any kind, remember to filter it through a biblical lens. Cappuccino, smoke machines, skinny jeans, high top sneakers, rock concerts every Sunday, and the hippest slang woven into a motivational speech, where the "communicator" reads a verse or two from the New Living Translation in the midst of his motivational speech: that's the stuff crummy churches are made of. We're chatting about these churches, how to avoid them, and what God tells us a church should be in his never changing Word. ________________________ When this is the day you are examining your church and find that the pomp and circumstance points to the glory of man, that the pastor is more of a motivational speaker and less of a teacher, that the seats are filled with unrepentant sinners, (not just sinners - but UNREPENTANT SINNERS), leave that church. There is no reason to stay under unfaithful teaching. When this is the day you know your church is pastored by faithful men who rightly teach the word of God, thank the Lord for that. And pray for them continuously. ________________________ Resources: Pillar of Truth Podcast by Pastor-Teacher Travis Allen ________________________ This Is The Day Rejoice Website Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest ________________________ We want everyone to have a free, printable bookmark, to help you spend more time rightly seeking to understand God's Word. Anxiety isn’t a disorder. It is distrust. How easy it is to become distracted and consumed by the cares of this world, until our concerns have completely obscured our view of God! Instead of casting our cares upon the Lord, we focus on them until anxiety reigns. As with all things, God knows our sinful tendencies and in loving care for our souls, He gives us clear instructions on how to turn from anxiety and put on thankfulness. Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ________________________ When this is the day you are consumed with anxiety, first turn to prayer. Even if you don't feel like it, pray anyway. Then read the Bible and pray some more. We pray because he tells us to, and we love to obey him. Prayer changes us. Submitting our desires to him through prayer - having our very desires changed and shaped through prayer - that brings glory to God. ________________________ Resources: His Glory and My Good by CityAlight Morning and Evening by Charles Spurgeon Transformed by Dr. Greg Gifford ________________________ This Is The Day Rejoice Website Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest ________________________ We want everyone to have a free, printable bookmark, to help you spend more time rightly seeking to understand God's Word. Conflict is inevitable. But just because it’s inevitable, doesn’t mean it has to be sinful. Conflict actually gives us the opportunity to practice being peacemakers, which is to put into practice, the head knowledge we have about acting righteously. But that can ONLY occur when we have one focus: to glorify God. ________________________ When this is the day that strife, disputing, and discord are running rampant, and you want to judge rightly without being critical, use scripture as your compass to determine the standard. Strive to model the attributes of God: love, mercy, compassion, and patience. Only then will you be prepared to judge righteously. ________________________ Resources: The Peacemaker: A Biblical Guide to Resolving Personal Conflict , a book by Ken Sande Praying for the Next Generation (Family Discipleship) , a book by Sally Michael ________________________ This Is The Day Rejoice Website Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest ________________________ We want everyone to have a free, printable bookmark, to help you spend more time rightly seeking to understand God's Word.
