It is no question that Black women have been historically sexualized, whether it is our choice or not. Being called a wh*re is nothing new to us, and we seem to have collectively come to the understanding that the worst thing you can be called is a “wh*re.” Now, how are we trying to beat the wh*e allegations? Why ARE we so terrified of being called a wh*re? And how does this fear affect the way we think about and interact with sex workers? In this episode, we discuss wh*rephobia by looking at the history of black video vixens, the “ig model”, and going all the way back to slavery to decipher where the notion of wh*reness actually came about.
