Is your sex life a part of your marriage, or its own thing? Does sex flow through your marriage, or does it just exist when you take it out of its box to enjoy it?

When I say flow through your marriage, I don’t mean you’re having sex all over the house any chance you get. I mean, you flirt off and on. Some of the flirting may be overtly sexual, but much of it has just a hint. It’s a kiss that speaks your desire, hugging in a way you would hug no one else, or a pat on the butt.

A literal reading of Proverbs 5:19 would be something like:

Let your wife’s nipples satisfy you at all times; be constantly intoxicated with her love.

There is nothing there about keeping your sexuality in a box. It’s part of your everyday life. We must be aware of others, but even in public, we can express our love in ways that make is obvious we desire each other. Seeing married couples who still enjoy each other sexually is a good thing for other couples, and teens.

Some of you are thinking, “I’m all for it, but my wife would come unglued.” Perhaps she would be okay with something a bit more reserved than what you would do. And perhaps you’re uncomfortable letting sex out of its box. Are you opposed to nudging sex when you can’t get naked? Are you secretly a bit embarrassed by your desire for your wife?

Bottom line: If we see Proverbs 5:19 as a command, are you living that out? If not, what would need to change to make that a reality?
