This week we welcome the President/CEO of the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation, Michael "Rod" Rodriguez. The GWOT Memorial Foundation was formed in 2015 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation by a small group of like-minded veterans, military spouses, and patriots to honor the service and sacrifice of all who served in the Global War on Terrorism. In its first two years, the Foundation was the driving force behind the Global War on Terrorism War Memorial Act to authorize the establishment of a national war memorial on federal land in Washington, D.C. Rod discusses the recent passage and signing of the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Location Act, which allows for the construction of the memorial on the National Mall within the Reserve. This victory ensures that GWOT veterans will be remembered amongst their brothers and sisters forever memorialized by the Vietnam, Koren, and World War II memorials. Rod also describes how this memorial will be a catalyst to start conversations about service, and how Americans, not only fight for, but support this great nation. Get ready to adjust those D.C. tourist maps, and enjoy this week's episode.
This week's highlighted veteran owned business is Helmand Valley Growers Company. HVGC's mission is to help put an end to the opioid and suicide epidemic plaguing our Nation's Heroes. They believe that exploring the benefits of medical cannabis is the most effective way to combat these issues and bring proper aid to those who gave so much for our great nation. To support this mission, and the education of veterans of the benefits of medical marijuana, HVGC launched their own line of cannabis products. Available in California for recreational use, go to https://hvgcompany.com to learn more about their mission and products.
