During the Season 3 finale, Dr. Raylene Ross, Director of Sports Leadership and Mental Performance at the University of South Carolina, joins Glenn on the Field to discuss mental health issues and physical challenges that many amateur athletes often experience when their playing career ends. She opens up about the struggles of depression, body image, and even eating disorders many student-athletes face when they transition from their athletic career to life after sports. Dr. Ross shares why athletic development and identity development in student-athletes is important during their end of athletic career transition, combatting imposter syndrome, and how to build general confidence and overcome self-esteem issues. Dr. Ross also talks about effective mental development and transition management strategies that she often uses when working with elite athletes.
