ACL reconstruction surgeries are one of the most common surgeries performed in the USA, however finding the right surgeon and the right graft is extremely important!

I interviewed Dr. Travis Menge, MD on the Healthy Hustling Podcast w/ Dr. Eric Broadworth and discussed ACL reconstruction surgeries, particularly the use of a quadriceps tendon autograft. The quadriceps tendon autograft is becoming an increasingly more popular choice among orthopedic surgeons for ACL reconstruction when compared to the use of the patellar tendon, hamstrings, and cadaver grafts that are also used for ACL reconstruction.

Some of the benefits of using a quadriceps tendon autograft include a lower rupture rate, stronger anatomical structure, and less invasive harvest site.

Dr. Travis Menge is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He specializes in minimally invasive surgeries of the hip, shoulder and knee. Dr. Menge has published numerous research articles in orthopedic and sports medicine journals and has been recognized nationally and internationally for his work. Dr. Menge is also a clinical professor at Michigan State University School of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate degree with honors at Michigan State University and earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
