Let’s go for a deep dive on ‘forest bathing’ with Gary Evans – co-founder of The Forest Bathing Institute in the UK.
Forest bathing, also known as Shinrin-Yoku, originated in Japan in the 1980s…and is actually prescribed by doctors there for preventing illness.
Not simply a walk in the forest to chill out and de-stress, Forest bathing is a specific practice of immersing oneself in nature and being present in the forest environment.

Gary Evans and his wife founded The Forest Bathing Institute in England eight years ago, and it has since become a world leading body for research, training, and events related to forest bathing.

They are currently collaborating with 40 universities to study the effects of forest bathing on various health conditions, including high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, and overall well-being. Their ultimate goal is to have forest bathing prescribed by the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK, similar to what has been done in Japan.
