In Sumer An and Ki (or anshar and kishar) are the original father and mother, they represent sky and earth respectively. As we said, the ruling party wants to remove the woman from the story. They partially imitated the Egyptian model (or maybe Egyptian Pharaohs had imitated them in the first place). An and Ki bring a son, whose name is Enlil or Elil. The sky and earth were mixed into each other before this time, Enlil separates the sky and earth (his father and mother), then divides the inheritance: he gives the sky to his father Anu, and takes Earth for himself! This way Enlil very simply removes mother Ki and takes earth for himself. In almost all myths of the world Earth and matter is a woman, but very strangely here we have Enlil who is the God of earth, the lover father goes back to sky, and mother disappears, very simple.
