A lot of people still mistake micellar water with toners when in fact they’re supposed be cleansers. What makes micellar waters so different from the other types of cleansers is the chemicals used in them: little balls of mild surfactant that attract oil and dirt. Bioderma was the first brand to bring out this sort of cleanser to the pharmacy shelves and who made it popular. The reason why Bio Derma decided to create this new cleanser was Parisian water was hard. Their original idea was to use good quality ingredients to “replace” the tap water in the makeup removing routine. As micellar water became popular a lot of brands decided to do their own interpretation of the product and in the urge of bringing the customers a cleanser at a low price they changed its formulation and used lots the wrong ingredients (fragrances, alcohol, butyl glycol). Even though they are trying to sell it as a product for sensitive skin, all the ingredients mentioned you wouldn’t ever choose for sensitive skin. As far as if it’s actually a good cleanser: It should be used as a pre cleanser only. For me- micellar water is just a fancy wipe and they only move the makeup around your face but doesn’t remove much. So, NO. It should definitely NOT replace your cleansers and toners. Nothing But The Truth.
