In the spirit of spring renewal, this is a wonderful time to reflect on our habits and routines.😄

This week, on Episode #95 of the Habit Thrive Podcast, we are talking about habits to add☝️ to our spring (and incoming summer) routines.

1) Using a sinus rinse👃 or neti pot

This is a great way to clear out congestion if you are feeling especially sensitive to the pollen🤧 in the air this time of year.

Use it in the morning or evening - or both if you need it!😉

If you’re new to using a sinus rinse, it can take some practice. Just relax and don’t force it

2) Oil pulling

Just a Tablespoon of coconut oil for 5 to 20 mins will do the trick.🙌

Afterward, try 3-4 light brushes of the tongue, and then brush your teeth.😁 You’ll be surprised to see how refreshing and cleansing it feels!

As a bonus, you can stack this with other habits like shoulder rolls or (right-side-up🙃) yoga, or even just moving along with your day and folding laundry, washing your face or making the bed.

3) Dry brushing (gharshana)

Many methods involve using raw silk or linen gloves, but you can also try a natural bristle brush.

4) Breath practice (pranayama)

A dedicated, daily breathing practice is cleansing and clearing at any time of year - especially the spring time!

Even just a minute or two of pause accompanied by long inhale and exhale😮‍💨 helps in reducing blockages in our body.

5) Movement practices

As the weather turns fairer, more opportunities arise for getting outside for daily walks or runs.🏃🏼‍♀️

Yoga (inside or out!) is a wonderful way to get moving and push out the proverbial “gunk” to clear our bodies and minds for spring renewal.

6) Meditation🙏🏼

Try a meditation practice that engages all your senses:

Find a comfy spot outside and listen to the chirping of birds or leaves rustling. Take in the sight of a sunrise/sunset. Inhale the aroma of a fresh breeze. And, afterward, relish the taste of a soothing green tea.

7) Lighten up food choices🍎

Swap heavy soups and stews for salads and fresh greens

Enjoy the herbs sprouting in your garden like fennel, mint, dill and basil.

And, of course, don’t forget lots of water!🫗

Pick and choose from our list whatever habits feel right for you.

Not congested? Skip the sinus rinse and oil pulling. Work instead on incorporating seasonal fruits and veggies into your meals.

Living in an area where there’s still frost on the ground most mornings? Hold on to your soups and stews a bit longer. Play with dry brushing instead.

Experiment with what looks good to you, and come back next week for a new list: What to Delete or Shift for a Happy and Healthy Spring!
