"For nearly every indicator, the health of America’s nurses is worse than that of the average American. Nurses are more likely to be overweight, have higher levels of stress, get less than the recommended hours of sleep."

Today's episode is going to be about how… REAL NURSES practice what they preach. It's part of a 5-part series on what it takes to be a REAL NURSE.
In my opinion, the best nurses have these values/characteristics:
- RESPECT THE PROFESSION
- PUT IN THE WORK
- STAY HUMBLE
- PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH
- LOVE LIFE & PEOPLE
Here's another crazy statistic!
"A 2016 collaborative study... sought to identify the impact of stress and subsequent coping mechanisms on the overall health of hospital-based nurses.
- 92% nurses reported moderate to very high stress levels
- 78% slept fewer than 8 hours per night
- 69% did not exercise regularly
- 63% ate less than five daily servings of fruits and veggies
- 22% consumed five or more drinks on any one occasion, which is classified as binge drinking
Many of the nurses surveyed rated their health as good, which the researchers believed is not accurately reflective of their health behaviors and lifestyle."

So what's the problem? A large number of nurses are NOT healthy. Isn't this a sad reality? I've always had a dream that people in healthcare would live the most vibrant and fulfilling lives - marked by health and wellness.
Nobody trusts a cop who breaks the law. Nobody trusts a mechanic who’s car is always breaking down. Nobody trusts a financial advisor who’s broke and homeless. So why would someone trust their life to people who are careless with their own?
Care about what kind of life you lead. Real nurses practice what they preach! If you don't, you can't expect your employer to live up to their mission statement.
So, why are so many nurses living unhealthy lifestyles? We are not being intentional. We are not being consistent. We are not seeking help.
And how can we help fix the problem? Let's make ATOMIC CHANGES every day to set ourselves up for success; let's go back to the fundamentals.
