Pflanzen und Tiere reagieren auf vielfältige Weise auf den heutigen Klimawandel. Sie verändern ihren jahreszeitlichen Rhythmus, wachsen teils schneller, teils langsamer – und vor allem wandern sie. Die erwärmungsbedingten Migrationen ziehen Flora und Fauna überwiegend polwärts, aber die räumliche Dynamik des Klimas führt auch zu ganz anderen Wanderrouten. Der Vortrag von Prof. Wolfgang Kießling zeigt Vorhersagen, wohin und über welche Routen Pflanzen und Tiere im 21. Jahrhundert wandern werden und diskutiert Konsequenzen, die sich daraus für Ökosysteme an Land und Meer ergeben. In einem Streifzug durch die geologische Vergangenheit beleuchtet Kießling zudem, unter welchen Bedingungen es durch Klimawandel sogar zu massenhaftem Artensterben kommen kann.
