Postpartum is an inherently vulnerable time for your nervous system.
In this episode Lauren chats with Prairie Wolfe, a sexological bodyworker, and Somatic Experiencing practitioner to explore how to navigate postpartum anger and increase your nervous system health.
Prairie starts by giving us a quick and dirty explanation of the nervous system and what regulation really means.
She helps shed light on the these burning questions:
- What does a healthy expression of anger look like? What are some somatic practices to help move through the 'fight' response? How do we acknowledge and accept anger as a sacred emotion?
- Why is "repair" so important? How do you create a family culture that doesn't disengage with big emotional expressions? What does repair look and sound like?
- What's the single most important postpartum need, that helps nurture your nervous system?
Prairie also highlights the importance of seeking help and support as new parents and emphasizes the lifelong impact of the postpartum period on not only the mother, but on the child's attachment system and nervous system regulation.
Prairie leaves you with simple, somatic principles and practices to try right away, to help you regulate and thrive as a mother.
Prairie Wolfe is a Certified Sexological Bodyworker, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, and Somatic Sex and Relationship Coach. She was ushered into this work through a difficult birth and postpartum time that left her grappling with physical and emotional trauma, and searching desperately for answers. Prairie has a thriving private practice where she supports folks to reconnect with their vibrancy, reclaim space in their own bodies, recover from pelvic issues, and develop healthy relating patterns with their partners and children. She also regularly hosts group pelvic-mapping workshops as well as relationship development for couples.
