After spending his first 22 years in Brisbane and changing careers paths twice, Jack is the owner of BFT Newcastle. In our conversation we dive into Jacks lived experience of open heart surgery at 9 years old and being told his childhood dream of playing footy was over. We also discuss the courage and trust it takes to relocate and start a new chapter, the positive impact of having a mentor in your life and the unexpected outcomes of opening a gym.

TRIGGER warning - in this episode we do talk about stroke - if you've experienced a stroke or have a loved one who has experienced a stroke, this episode may be triggering for you.
In this episode we cover...
-Jack's lived experience of being diagnosed with a heart condition and undergoing heart surgery at 9 years old and then again at 15.
-Navigating the disappointment of aspiring to be a professional footballer while facing the reality of doctors advising against pursuing contact sports.
-The courage to relocate interstate, chase a new career and trust the chapter that was unfolding
-How working in the fitness industry, particularly in group training settings, helped bridge the missing sense of connection that Jack previously found in team sports.
-The unexpected outcomes (and wins!) of opening a gym
-The reflections of experiencing a stroke at 27, being rushed to hospital and undergoing emergency surgery.
-Finding the balance between nurturing a heart condition and pushing his body to physical limits
-How Jack has built a culture of community and connection at BFT Newcastle, through focusing on 3 core values.
-Misconceptions about strength training for women
-The positive impact mentors can have on your life
-The power of vulnerability to build deeper connections
