Most people who have limited knowledge about PTSD would assume one of two things. Firstly, you should be able to just get over it given enough time, or alternatively that once you have it that's it, you can’t recover from the condition. But that’s not actually the case—and I’m speaking from experience! The thing is, others' impatience or their hopeless projection about our recovery from PTSD can be really unhelpful. It can contribute to feelings of helplessness and shame. However, there are actually ways to recover from PTSD. It's not just an automatic, given enough time, kind of thing, but takes work.
